Everyone knows audio problems. If no sound is played on Windows, this can have various causes, some of which are easier or more difficult to fix.

Of course, every user expects flawless audio quality, especially in the home office, more and more people rely on PC speakers with better sound quality than integrated computer speakers, which are worth their weight in gold both in meetings and at work. But even so, external devices naturally produce a better sound when listening to your favorite music or when guests are visiting. If there are then audio problems, this is of course not particularly ideal if there is no sound from either the external or the internal speakers.

TRIVIAL CAUSES POSSIBLE

Of course, it could be because the speakers aren’t working properly. That should be the first thing to check before finally troubleshooting the desktop. In most cases, another connection on the computer can provide a remedy or changes can be made in the volume mixer on the PC itself. To do this, simply enter “system sound” in the search bar and navigate to “playback”. Here you finally select the desired audio device and right-click to navigate to the “Test” entry. If there is still no sound, you can click on “Properties” below in the same breath and test different formats in the “Advanced” tab.

Not infrequently, the cause is simply a switched-off of the sound on the device itself or the operating system. To do this, you can easily check the output device with Windows by right-clicking on the speaker icon in the taskbar and opening the sound settings. Here you select the correct output device and can check within the properties whether speakers, headphones, etc. are set correctly at all.

Last but not least, it can help to disconnect all sound devices from the Windows PC or to force it to restart. If that still doesn’t help, further steps can be taken to get the sound working again.

TROUBLESHOOTING

With luck, Windows can even identify the problem itself – simply start the troubleshooter. To do this, open the start menu and simply type “troubleshooting” into the search bar. Within the Windows troubleshooter, you then click on the list entry “Playing audio files” and finally on “Run troubleshooter”. Finally, you have to select the appropriate device and click through the suggested solutions that Windows presents.

UPDATE SOUND CARD DRIVER

The cause of the missing sound can also be outdated drivers because these support Windows 10 when communicating with the audio hardware. Either simply updating the audio drivers or a complete reinstallation can help. Finally, for an update, enter “Device Manager” in the settings, select the entry “Audio, video, and game controllers” and finally click on the corresponding sound card. This step can finally be used to “Update driver” in the “Driver” tab.

You can also use it to reinstall if the problem persists. Within the “Drivers” entry, there is an “Uninstall device” field at the very bottom. Eventually, this requires restarting the computer and reconnecting the audio device so that Windows can reinstall the drivers.
