It’s Halloween this month, my friend, so stock up on popcorn and sit down to remember the best movies about witches: from old and nostalgic to modern and scary.

“Witchcraft”, 1996

An interesting horror film about modern witches: four friends study in the same class and are engaged in witchcraft. Each used magic for their own purposes. However, magic can be played too much and friends soon realize that many of their actions can have irreversible consequences.

The Witches of Eastwick, 1987

Three lonely friends live in a small town in New England. But their lives change when the charismatic and mysterious rich man Daryl Van Horn comes to town. Soon the new neighbor arouses interest not only among the inhabitants of the town but also among her friends. Each became a victim of his charm, but soon the thought comes to their minds that the handsome man is not at all who he claims to be.

“Focus-pocus”, 1993

In Salem, on the eve of Halloween, three witches are transported from the past to the present. They have an insidious plan: they are going to get the lives of all the local children until the morning. This film has been creating a Halloween atmosphere not only in the West but also in our country for several years now. Very funny, bright, and musical picture.

“Practical Magic”, 1998

All men who had the imprudence to fall in love with a girl from the Owens family will surely die. Such was the powerful spell of their ancestor, the young witch Mary Owens, in the late 18th century. But fast forward to our time. Sisters Sally and Gillian live with Aunts Frances and Bridget in New England and in the town they are known as witches. Neither of them can be happy in love, but everything changes when one of Gillian’s affairs ends in tears. The sisters use magic, but they do not even suspect how much their decision will change everything.

“The Last Witch Hunter”, 2015

An immortal witch hunter named Caulder has maintained the balance between good and evil in the world for centuries. And if earlier other witch hunters helped him in this, then over the years it became harder: there are fewer colleagues, and witches are more and more influential and stronger. They are preparing a new blow – they are going to arrange a plague epidemic for the whole world. Calder has to team up with one of them and try to save the whole world.

“Time of the Witches”, 1972

An old but very interesting film. The main character is very frightened by nightmarish visions that seem real, it seems to her that someone invisible is constantly watching her. And in order to escape from horror, Joan has to resort to black magic. Will it help? Watch the movie and find out.

The Blair Witch Project, 1999

At the end of the eighteenth century, a young woman is accused of witchcraft and banished to the forest, after which children begin to disappear in the village of Blair. The locals flee from there, forced to admit that they cannot cope with the revenge of the witch.

But in 1994, three students decide to go to the same forest to make a documentary about the Blair Witch. But they do not even realize what evil lurks in the darkness of the Black Hills and in themselves.

“Elvira: Mistress of the Dark”, 1988

Eccentric beauty Elvira comes to the tiny New England town of Falwell to collect her inheritance of a cookbook, an old house, and a poodle. However, everything is not so simple. The cookbook turns out to be magical and is being hunted by Elvira’s uncle to take over the world.

In the fight against her uncle, Elvira will have to shake up the town and its inhabitants, who are mired in their own hypocrisy and swagger.

“Witch Time”, 2010

And this is already a gloomy medieval film about that period of time when the Black Death raged in Europe. Two crusader deserters (one of whom is Nicolas Cage) must deliver the witch to a distant abbey, where they will perform an exorcism on her and release her. But, having heard about the “pious” Catholic Church, the crusaders doubt that the girl will be able to survive. Nevertheless, they agree to this path and understand that their companion is not at all as defenseless as it might seem, and she has her own plans for this exorcism rite. Sinister, I must say.

Suspiria, 1977

This is not a remake for you, but an original that gives you goosebumps! A young American moves to Italy to study ballet in Rome. But on the night of arrival, mystical and terrible cases begin. She was not allowed to go to school, and a girl escapes from the building, who will soon be found brutally murdered. Suzy, in the process of learning, understands that something is not right here and decides to find out the truth, which will turn out to be much worse than any of her assumptions.
