These few simple rules will help protect your phone in difficult times of war! Russia is attacking our state not only from the air and land but also in the information space. That is why it is important to protect our devices from the invasion of the Russian occupiers, who are trying, by all means, to find out the whereabouts of our military, civilians, and children in order to do even more damage.

In his Telegram channel, cybersecurity expert Andriy Baranovich shared several information security rules that will help protect your smartphone during the war.

As the specialist explained, the basis of the military level of security is discipline. Therefore, the following rules will help not only during the war but also after.

Rules on how to protect your smartphone during the war

  • Update your phone’s system settings. If the smartphone cannot be upgraded, it will be advisable to replace it with a simpler model that will receive fresh updates.
  • Discard any applications you do not use. The specialist has only three applications: Signal, Twitter and Messenger.
  • It is recommended not to use biometrics to protect access to the smartphone. Instead, set a password with a limited number of attempts.
  • Enable two-factor authentication in all accounts. Then the attackers will not be able to get your data.
  • It is recommended to place the encrypted backup in the “cloud”.
  • There was a suspicion of all the links received. Never follow unknown links received in private messages on any social network or messenger, as they may be created by hackers to obtain your data.

Here are some more tips for added security:

  • Make profiles on social networks closed. Attackers often hack personal profiles to obtain information or create fakes.
  • Don’t take pictures with a flag on your avatar – they can become a beacon for racists. They will follow the information you share, or put similar portraits of themselves on social networks to gain trust. If you want to put a patriotic photo, it is better to close the account from outsiders.
  • If you are automatically added to an unknown group on social networks or messenger, unsubscribe immediately and block.
  • If someone on social media asks you for private information, think about it! In no case do not give personal phone numbers or contacts of other people, do not share information about the situation in the city or in a particular area, do not tell about the location of Ukrainian military equipment or military facilities.
