To see a real canyon, it is not necessary to fly across the Atlantic. After all, the Buk Canyon is in no way inferior to the Swiss fjords!

Three hours on the road from Kyiv by car along the Odesa highway – and in front of you is a landscape that is completely atypical for Ukraine.

“Little Switzerland” is what the locals call the Buk Canyon. A real granite miracle is located on the Gorny Tikich River near the village of Buki (the border of the Cherkasy and Vinnytsia regions). The age of the local granite rocks is estimated at 2 billion years, and their height reaches 20-40 m. Narrow gorges here alternate with sheer cliffs, and the sound of the river and the picturesque ruins of an old mill that have been preserved near the waterfall create an amazing landscape.

On the way to the canyon, you can visit no less interesting places. For example, in Kovalevka, a European-style village that is absolutely atypical for Ukraine. Small well-groomed houses, ideal roads, the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a pond with swans, a picturesque park with a fountain and a huge flower clock – for a while you will feel like you are in good old Europe. And if you like English Gothic, take a look at the Dakhovsky estate in Leskovo. An old castle has been preserved here. You can also visit the Alexandria Arboretum, one of the largest in Europe, located in Bila Tserkva.

Odesa highway in recent years is not happy with the quality of coverage, especially closer to Kyiv. In some areas, the pavement is being overhauled and traffic is limited to two lanes in both directions, you need to be careful, especially at night. Traditionally, at the stationary traffic police post in Bila Tserkva, the speed limit is controlled and the “Frontier” system operates, which reads license plates on the go and checks whether the car has been arrested, for example, for non-payment of a fine.
