Today, September 9th, the Climate Action UK Working Group launched the ADgreen initiative aimed at eliminating the negative impact of the advertising industry on the environment. It was joined by Sky and Unilever.

The AA initiative has two key goals:

  • Measuring the carbon footprint of advertising production;
  • Empowering the industry to reduce emissions and waste, and moving towards a carbon-free future.

Adrien will provide participating companies with a range of new features and tools. These include specialist training, a carbon footprint calculator including global carbon footprints from over 140 countries, a renewable energy procurement scheme, and a certification and compensation scheme for the UK advertising community. This will help the project team to better understand which activities have the greatest negative impact on the environment.

Important! Starting in 2021, AdGreen will make tools and expertise available not only to the participants of the initiative, but to the entire UK manufacturing community. In this way, all advertising professionals will be able to take steps towards a better climate.

“ In order to move towards a zero-carbon future, urgent action is needed from all sides. We are excited to join our peers and other leading organizations in launching green and making a real difference in the advertising industry. It’s time to bet on a carbon-free world, ” commented Unilever Group CEO Alan Jope.

Debbie Klein, Director of Marketing, Corporate Communications, and Human Resources at Sky Group, also expressed his opinion about the desire of AA to make the world cleaner:

“ At Sky, we have committed to achieving zero carbon emissions by 2030, two decades ahead of the UK government’s targets. But we also want to encourage others to join #GoZero, so I’m glad Sky is standing with others as a founding member of AdGreen. Together we can provide a vital platform to share best practices and innovative ways to tackle the climate crisis because the world cannot wait.”

AdGreen is currently supported by ISBA, IPA, and a number of agencies including WPP and Havas. The group will be led by industry specialist Joe Coombs and supported by strategy advisor Tricia Duffy.
