What should be the perfect diaper for the “golden sleep” of babies? In search of an answer to this question, we went to the Pampers® Research and Development Center in Schwalbach, Germany. It is here that the famous baby diapers are “born” and improved, which are trusted by parents all over the world.
The heart of innovation
The Pampers Center opened in 2000. Today it occupies 22,000 square meters of area. There are 350 scientists working here to improve diapers, and about 1200 families a week take part in their testing! Trial batches of new diapers are created within the walls of the center. After passing through numerous laboratory tests, the products get tested by the kids.
Tests in games
For this purpose, a special playroom laboratory is equipped in the research center, where the main experts come – children and their parents. Here they play, frolic, communicate with their peers, and also test new diapers. Among the kids are children of different ages and nationalities. The staff of the center carefully observe the little ones, noting whether it is convenient for little researchers.
After the kids play enough, they get into the laboratory for skin research. Here, using a special sensor, experts measure the level of moisture in the skin under the diaper, comparing it with other parts of the body. The indicators should not be drastically different. Specialists do not wear white coats so as not to seem like doctors to kids. The laboratory is filled with toys and colorful paintings, and there is a cozy and warm atmosphere. The baby can play, communicate with mom or a specialist while his ass contributes to science. Only those diapers that have successfully passed all the tests get into mass production.
