Ukrainians have united as much as possible and supported the UAF fighters with what they can – with their blood. Everyone helps the Ukrainian army as much as they can: some donate money to charity, some give shelter to refugees from towns and villages that are under fire, and some share their blood.
At present, the need for blood reserves in Ukraine is closed and there is already a blood reserve of all groups and rhesus in all regions. However, if you want to help and become a donor, the Kyiv City Blood Center asks you not to come on your own, but to register on the Donor.ua platform. As soon as the required blood group is exhausted, the administrators will notify those with the required group and rhesus to come and replenish the reserve.
Volunteers monitor blood stocks 24/7, so they will promptly notify willing donors. According to the official website of the non-profit organization DonorUa, currently, there is a need only for stocks with negative rhesus.
How to prepare for blood donation
Before you go to the Blood Center, you need to make sure that your blood is suitable and ready for donation. People over the age of 18 and weighing 50 kg can donate blood. Prior to blood donation, it is strictly forbidden to drink alcohol, consume smoked, spicy, and fried foods 48 hours before delivery; Pickles, dairy products, and eggs are also not desirable – they thicken the blood, the same applies to dates, bananas, and nuts. Beets and blueberries are also on the list of products that should not be consumed by blood donation. The taboo is on chips, mayonnaise, ketchup, carbonated drinks, sausages, halva, and crackers. You should also refrain from medication and smoking.
