Rumor has it that love is blind. However, recent studies by scientists prove that self-deception, i.e. endowing a partner with traits of character and appearance that he does not actually possess, on the contrary, is a factor that ensures a long and happy marriage.

During the experiment, 70 couples were interviewed, who were asked to evaluate the appearance of their partners and strangers. It turned out that most of the participants in the experiment consider their partners more attractive than strangers.

Dr. Viren Swamy of the University of Westminster in London says that believing that a partner is attractive significantly increases a person’s own self-esteem and makes them feel happy.

Moreover, psychologists believe that if a person does not idealize his partner, this most likely indicates that something is going wrong in the relationship.

Most lovers idealize their soul mate in the first three months after they met, but often this effect lasts into adulthood. Psychologists call this phenomenon the “halo effect” – if a person is confident in the attractiveness of his partner, a positive assessment is formed in his mind.
