Less than a month is left before the arrival of one of the most famous rock divas, the ex-soloist of the Nightwish band Tarja Turunen. The only performance of the vociferous Finn will take place on December 21 at the October Palace. On the eve of our arrival, we prepared a selection of little-known facts about this mysterious performer.

World fame

Turunen was the first foreign singer who managed to sell more than 20,000 copies of her album in the CIS countries.

Her album “My winter storm” brought her platinum and raised her to 11th place in Billboard’s Top 100 European Albums, and Tarja herself was nominated for Echo Awards and Emma Awards.

In total, over 900,000 Tarja solo discs and over 3 million copies of albums recorded as part of Nightwish have been sold.

In her native Finland, Tarja was dubbed the “Finnish Nightingale”.

In December 2003, Finnish President Tarja Halonen invited Tarja and her husband to the Presidential Palace in Helsinki to celebrate Independence Day. A reviewer for a Finnish TV channel called the artist the most impressively dressed lady at this event.

Tarja Turunen was born in the small village of Puhos, Finland, to a carpenter’s family. Already at the age of 3, the girl noticed the strongest vocals, and the baby began to study music in the local church choir. Tarja started playing the piano at the age of 6.

Turunen has two higher educations, she speaks five languages: Finnish, Swedish, German, Spanish, and English, drive a car, loves running and diving.
