Over the years, the nature of the hair is transformed, it loses density and volume. The first gray hairs appear, the texture changes, and it becomes rougher and drier.

Also, it loses shine, showing itself more fragile and undisciplined; the process of falling is accentuated at the same time that we lose thickness; and the scalp becomes dry the follicles atrophy, and the rate of growth slows down.

The causes are multiple and of different origins; perhaps the most prominent is the hormonal changes that occur over time, in addition to the damage caused by how we have treated our hair during our lives, poor nutrition, the use of certain products, excessive exposure of the scalp to the sun, pollution or chemical aggressions from inadequate dyes and treatments that can transform the nature of the hair fiber and give the hair an unhealthy appearance.

What can we do to maintain hair health? Kevin Briceño, director of Krown by Kevin Briceño Hairdressing, offers us some useful tips that will recover part of the luminosity and density of the hair and the health of the scalp.

1. Mindful eating. We are what we eat, and that is a reality. Apart from eating, there are a number of foods that especially benefit the hair due to the nutrients they contain.

The residues that we accumulate in the body, and also in the hair, are highly harmful and accentuate the lack of oxygenation of the scalp

For example, green foods provide vitamins A and C, which help keep hair hydrated; legumes provide iron, zinc, and biotin, which strengthen hair;  Some vegetables and fruits provide beta-carotene, which helps maintain the health of the scalp together with vitamin C, which facilitates the production of collagen, essential for hair regeneration.

2. Detoxify your hair. The residues that we accumulate in the body, and also in the hair, are highly damaging and accentuate the lack of oxygenation of the scalp. Just as you undergo a detoxification treatment for your body, your hair and scalp must eliminate the residues that accumulate.

The expert is committed to eliminating silicones, parabens, and ceramides through purifying baths in his salon. ”At Peluquería Krown, our stylist Kenzo Yonekura reinforces a unique and innovative protocol with his experience, where we perform a ”personalized peeling”, first evaluating the condition of the hair and then performing a treatment ritual with plants and oils that deeply purify the scalp and restore its natural state”, explains the expert.

”We also perform moisturizing massages with exquisite oils that repair and nourish the hair fiber.  And so the hair regains its vitality and the scalp breathes again. We recommend carrying out a detox treatment once a month in the salon and using a hair scrub at least once every 15 days at home,” says the expert.

In autumn-winter, nutrition is gentle and emphasis should be placed on cleaning the scalp due to changes in temperature indoors and outdoors.

3. Repairs and restores hydration. Due to the natural aging process of the scalp (also of the hair), we need to provide extra nutrition.  This will also depend on the time of year we are; It must be borne in mind that in the autumn-winter or spring-summer seasons, the needs are not the same.

In autumn-winter, nutrition is gentle and emphasis should be placed on cleaning the scalp due to changes in temperature inside and outside. Hair tends to get oilier faster and this increased sebum production contributes to hair loss.

In spring-summer, nutrition is deeper and thermal protection is applied to counteract the aggressions caused by the sun, swimming pools, and the sea; Treatments such as labioplasty are also highly recommended, as its intelligent technology identifies damaged areas of hair.

4. Cut your hair. ”Our last recommendation would be a regular haircut every two to three months, depending on the demands of the mane. It not only helps to eliminate damaged ends but also redefines your style, highlights what you like, and is the fundamental element to achieving a youthful and flattering look”, concludes the expert.
