Forgiveness Sunday is the last day of Maslenitsa. In 2022, Forgiveness Sunday falls on March 6th. On this day, it is customary to prepare for Lent and ask for forgiveness from everyone who, voluntarily or involuntarily, offended. Forgiveness Sunday is traditionally celebrated 7 weeks before Easter, on the last day of Maslenitsa week. Orthodox Christians are guided by the words of Jesus Christ:
If you forgive people their sins, then your Heavenly Father will also forgive you; but if you do not forgive people their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive you your trespasses (Matthew 6:14-15).

How to ask for forgiveness on Forgiveness Sunday? Asking for forgiveness should be addressed to the person out loud. Usually, they say: “Forgive me.” And they answer on Forgiveness Sunday, “God will forgive, forgive me” or “God will forgive, and I forgive.” You can send a postcard to your family and friends with words of forgiveness or post it on your page on social networks.
It is not customary to specify what exactly you ask for forgiveness for: it is understood that on this day all the bad things that you voluntarily or unwittingly caused people will be forgiven if you ask for forgiveness.
On Forgiveness Sunday, one should not indulge in despondency, complain, quarrel or sort things out.
Forgiveness Sunday is not a fast day, but according to custom, food should be moderate, preferably without meat: this is how we prepare to meet Great Lent.
